That is quite the gamble.

Most of my instructors of CIPR so as a result I've been working that avenue. I haven't the CIPR members helpful, they're not especially open to informational interviews. I chalked it up as a cultural difference. Maybe it's more of a North American thing? But I'll try a new route and see if the PRSA or IPRA are more accommodating.

Thanks!Whitney Punchakhttp://www.punchakpr.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5505321001193533635.post-74333525436727764472011-01-17T11:42:10.644-05:002011-01-17T11:42:10.644-05:00Hi Whitney ~ Thanks for your feedback. You're ...Hi Whitney ~ Thanks for your feedback. You're right in the sense that it's tough finding entry-level (or ANY level) positions, but they are there!

Here in the Boston area, I often hear of opportunities...or counsel students who are pursuing a position. It takes time...I have one friend who gambled on an 18-MONTH internship in the hope that it would turn into a full-time paid job. IT DID!! And he's incredibly happy.

Have you (I'm sure you have, but I have to ask!) worked the PR association channels in the UK? For example, in London, there are at least a dozen PRSA members who you could/should be in touch with for informational interviews, etc. IPRA has a chapter as well.

Good luck on your search, and thanks for sharing!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10517054023431864957noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5505321001193533635.post-37700616082345178042011-01-17T08:22:36.797-05:002011-01-17T08:22:36.797-05:00This is good advice, but I think it is perhaps (an...This is good advice, but I think it is perhaps (and I really hate to say this) a little optimistic. I'm currently completing my MA in Media and Public Relations and in the same boat as a lot of your students. Granted, my own job search is complicated because of immigration (I'm a Canadian in the UK), but even so, I've found that paid entry-level PR positions are few and far between. It's even more rare that they lead to permanent employment. It's still pretty rough out there for new grads, even those with work experience. Your students are lucky to have a professor who takes the time to give them a leg up.Whitney Punchakhttp://www.punchakpr.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5505321001193533635.post-87693623478047093572011-01-16T22:52:40.436-05:002011-01-16T22:52:40.436-05:00Thanks, Gerry.
